The Kitchen Next Door Has Been Waiting. - Ownmades

Let's start with a question. When was the last time you ate something that genuinely stopped you in your tracks? Not just good. Not just filling. Something that made you ask, where has this been my whole life?

Chances are, it wasn't from a restaurant chain. It wasn't delivered in a branded bag by a faceless app. It was made by someone. A person with a story, a recipe with a history, and a kitchen that looked a lot like yours.

That's the world Ownmades is being built for.

So. What exactly is Ownmades?

Ownmades is a homemade food marketplace, a platform that connects home chefs in Singapore with the people around them who are hungry for something real.

The idea is simple. If you're a talented home cook, Ownmades gives you a shop, an audience, and a straightforward way to get paid, all from the comfort of your home. No commercial kitchen. No complicated licence headaches. No business degree required.

And if you're someone who eats which, last we checked, is most people. Ownmades gives you a way to discover incredible home-cooked food being made right in your neighbourhood. Browse, order, and pick up from someone a few streets away. Fresh. Personal. Made the way only that one person knows how to make it.

The best meal you've ever had probably wasn't made in a restaurant.

Where the idea came from

The spark behind Ownmades wasn't a business plan. It was a frustration and a quiet realisation.

Singapore has one of the most vibrant food cultures in the world. Hawker centres, family recipes passed between generations, communities where food is the primary language of love and belonging. And yet, for all that richness, so much of it remains invisible. The aunty downstairs who makes the best curry puffs in the building. The family whose Sunday nasi lemak is, by all accounts, the stuff of local legend. The guy who's been fermenting his own chilli paste for three years and gives it away to friends because he doesn't know how else to share it.

These people exist in every neighbourhood. Their food is extraordinary. And there was no good way to find them.

Meanwhile, food delivery apps have made ordering easier than ever, but somewhere in that convenience, something got lost. The connection. The story. The sense that your meal came from an actual human being who put real thought and care into it. Everything started tasting the same, because increasingly, it was.

Ownmades was built to bring that back.

The climate couldn't be better. Or more urgent

Singapore's food and beverage landscape is at an interesting inflection point right now.

On one hand, the appetite for local, authentic food has never been stronger. Post-pandemic, people reconnected with the food of their childhoods, their cultures, their communities. There's a real and growing hunger, literally for food that means something. For dishes that carry a story you can actually trace back to a person.

On the other hand, the barriers to turning a passion for cooking into a livelihood have remained stubbornly high. Opening a restaurant in Singapore requires significant capital, a commercial space, and a level of regulatory navigation that stops most talented home cooks before they ever get started. The SFA has provisions for home-based food businesses, but awareness is low, and the tools to actually reach customers haven't kept up.

The result? Thousands of gifted home cooks in Singapore sharing their food with family and friends, occasionally selling through WhatsApp groups or neighbourhood chats, but never quite having the infrastructure to build something real.

That's the gap Ownmades is stepping into.

Your kitchen's already a business. We just help people start it.

How it works

For home chefs, it starts with signing up and creating a shop. Add your dishes, set your prices, choose your hours. Go live from your phone in minutes. Orders come in through the app, payment lands in your e-wallet automatically, and your customers collect directly from you. No chasing. No invoicing. No awkward money conversations. Just cook and get paid.

For buyers, it's even simpler. Browse home kitchens near you, find something that calls to you, and order it. Pick it up on your way home. And when someone asks where you got it, you'll enjoy telling them.

The self-pickup model is deliberate. It keeps costs down for everyone, yes. But more importantly, it preserves something that delivery can't: the moment of connection between a cook and the person eating their food. It's a small thing. It matters.

This is about more than food

At its heart, Ownmades is a community platform. Every order is a small act of trust between a home chef and a neighbour. Every new listing is someone deciding that their skill is worth sharing, and worth paying for.

We think that's significant. In a city that moves as fast as Singapore, there's something quietly radical about an app that asks you to slow down, look around your neighbourhood, and notice what's been there all along.

We're not trying to replace restaurants. We're not competing with hawker culture. We're adding a layer to Singapore's food story that's been missing, one where the most exciting thing you eat this week might come from three blocks away, made by someone whose name you'll actually remember.

We're just getting started

Ownmades is launching in Singapore, and we're building this alongside the chefs and food lovers who believe in it.

If you're a home cook who's been told to just sell this already, we built this for you. Sign up, list your first dish, and see what happens when the right person discovers your food.

If you're someone who eats and you're tired of the same options on repeat, come find what your neighbourhood has been keeping to itself.

And if you're just curious, good. Stay that way. There's a lot more coming.

The kitchen next door has been waiting. So have we.
